Once upon a time there were 2 games called Pokemon Gold and Silver. They were fun games and every kid bought them, so Nintendo had a great idea to make a game called Pokemon Crystal which was the same games with some extras. Now Nintendo got greedy and made a 4th and 5th version of the SAME GAME!!!! So if you bought every version of this game when they were new you would have spent over 175 dollars on different versions of the same game.

Welcome to Pokemon Crystal, version 1.01. That’s essentially what Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are: lazy, unimaginative rehashes hastily cranked out by GAME FREAK for an easy cash-in.
There is virtually ZERO new content in this game that is not present in one form or another in Pokemon Crystal or Pokemon Platinum. There are no new Pokemon species, battle moves or abilities. In other words, every Pokemon in HG/SS can be readily obtained from already-released GBA and DS Pokemon games. Even the Battle Frontier is a direct copy and paste from Pokemon Platinum with zero changes.
Unlike FireRed and LeafGreen, there isn’t even a new, sizable post-game region like the Sevii Islands. Instead, “new” additions are inserted here and there: Battle Frontier to Olivine City, Safari Zone to Cianwood, Pal Park (same one as D/P/Pt’s–surprised?) to Fuchsia City. There’s a new route linking Cianwood City to Safari Zone, but that’s about it. I guess GAME FREAK decided that stripped-down Kanto was enough and chose not to spend any more effort designing new areas, knowing that their rehashes would sell like hotcakes regardless.
After 11 years, almost none of the problems from the original Gold/Silver have been corrected in this incremental upgrade. The Rocket Execs, Elite Four members and gym leaders remain far too underleveled, including their rematches by the time you finally have access to them. The PokeGear is still annoying, and about once every five minutes, you’ll get telephone calls from some bug catcher telling you about how awesome it is to watch his Pokemon become stronger. Kanto is still heavily watered-down, with landmarks such as Silph Co., Pokemon Tower and Cinnabar Island being partially closed off or gutted–and this time, the lack of cartridge space is no longer an excuse.
Only two groups will possibly find these ports of any value: (1) folks who have never played Gold/Silver/Crystal before and (2) those who have insatiable amounts of rose-tinted nostalgia for the originals. For veterans of the Pokemon games, HG/SS offers nothing new or remotely interesting to the franchise, even for so-called “enhanced remakes.” Just grab a battery-repaired copy of Pokemon Crystal for $10-15 from eBay and save yourself some cash.
Sadly, all GAME FREAK does these days is repeatedly employ its “rehash-and-cash” business strategy. Two mainline games, followed by a Director’s Cut version and ports of the games from two generations ago. Then when it’s all over, GAME FREAK will design a hundred or so “new” monsters and start the cycle all over again. If you’re a smart consumer, don’t fall for it.

I am admittedly new to the world of pokemon videogaming, however I must advise that you do not ignore the assertions that this is a remake of Pokemon crystal. I’ll tell you why I don’t doubt that one bit. its because the pokewalker is a rip off of the virtual pet pikachu nintendo made a long time ago, and the very same concept applies you have to walk to level up your pokemon, just as you had to do with virtual pet pikachu. look at how its depicted on the cover. The pokemon shown in the Pokewalker is Pikachu. ripoff. This game earns four stars from me because I missed having a poorly disguised pedometer that candy coats the message that children need exercise. It does not earn five due to the fact tjhat you cannot take more than three steps on a road without a wild pokemon attacking you!!! this is good when its a pokemon you haven’t already caught, but most of the time this isnt the case. Their little remedy for this is repel, whiich ensures that you aren’t attacked by any wild pokemon for all of ten seconds. annoying. but I like the game overall. the ripoff pedometer carried it for me.
SOME TIPS
unown are annoying but there are different kinds catch all of them!!
You get the rainbow wing from the radio station manager in Goldenrod city use it to make the lengendary HO-OH appear at the burned tower. then catch it.
The tree that blocks the road to eustreak is really a pokemon. get the squirtbottle at the flower shop in goldenrod and soak it.
Go to the bike shop in Goldenrod to get a bicycle.

I got into Pokemon as an adult (when I was a kid I thought it was the nerdiest thing ever, though!), so I haven’t played all of the games. But I’ve played Fire Red, Pearl, and Platinum. The graphics were great and I loved some of the “new” features. You can now do a lot more with the touch screen on your DS than you could in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. (Such as save the game, access your items). And your party’s first pokemon follows you around, which is pretty adorable. You can turn around and talk to her and see if she’s happy.
The best part about this game is that it has two worlds in one – so instead of beating 8 gym leaders and the elite 4, you beat those, but then ANOTHER 8 gym leaders and the elite 4 again – only in the second map, the gym leaders are a LOT tougher, and the elite 4’s levels go up significantly for your second go-around. You can also rematch the gym leaders from the previous map once you’ve beaten the Elite 4 the first time around (either read an online walk-through to figure out how to do that or go back and talk to each of the gym leaders and they’ll explain how to set up the rematch).
All in all, definitely worth it, if for nothing else than the improved gameplay!

Great for Pokemon fans anywhere, Heart Gold is part of the latest installment in the pokemon video game series. It features an easier way to train or breed your pokemon with items they can hold (which were actually introduced in diamond/pearl). The menus have been streamlined from diamond/pearl, incorporating the touch screen more and reducing some of the annoying lag that was present with the touch screen in the earlier games. A few pokemon movesets have also been changed, but that’s only important if you’re a hardcore player (and you’ll want this game no matter what I say). Beyond these changes, this game is little more than a remake of Pokemon Gold/Silver for the gameboy – plus a few more characters.
