I played this game a few years ago, thinking it would be like the one I played during the late 90’s and it wasn’t very fun. It’s not very similar to the older versions. I think oregon trail 2 or 3 are the best. I don’t remember which version I played in school.

I purchased the product and have not been able to use it with Windows 7. It will not Run. Is there a patch to make it Run. The purchase was a waste of money.

I had the opportunity to play and buy Oregon Trail II back in 1996, yes, 1996 when it came out. Imagine my surpise to see Oregon Trail II (the pictures, the sound, the guide, everything is the same here) in the disguise of Oregon Trail 5th edition with very, very minor updates to it. There is a fishing mini game that was added but it looks like something that came out in the 90s. There is another almost game that involves exploring wild plantlife for food which has pictures with awful resolution, again like it came out in the 90s. The biggest difference is a cartoon story has been added to the game. The cartoon is not too bad actually, especially for children, but the game itself is almost, literally, unchanged.
The additions aren’t even seemless, which I can’t imagine they would be considering they are tacked on like this. I mean sometimes the sounds even override each other and one begins, the old music, while the new one hasn’t finished yet.
It’s a pretty cheap trick to be repackaging a game years later like this, throwing in a new installer (because the 16 bit installer will not actually work with Win 7 without XP mode and Virtual PC) and call it a later edition. Heck even the ability to save is very “old school” lacking the basic UI of today’s games. I understand this is educational and for children, but the quality in this series is apparently gone because it was good in 96, but remains virtually unchanged and there is shovelware with better qualtiy out there now.

I ordered this a few months ago. Finally got around to checking it out. It doesn’t work. I don’t know if it’s because I have Vista. It didn’t specify. It only says that I have an error because it can not find a certain file on the disk and to insert the disk…when the disk is already in there. It had other bugs before I even got to that part.
It’s a real disappointment, waste of time and waste of money.
Save your money, because it’s a rip off.

This is a great learning tool for my grandchildren. I have enjoyed playing it with them. Even though I first received the wrong version. Thanks.
